Our New Journey

Our New Journey

The past three years have been wonderful raising our son Brighton.  He is full of energy, confidence, and loves life.  He has enriched our home and strengthened our family!  Because of the joy we feel with Brighton and a strong feeling that our family is not yet complete, we have continued to try and adopt another child.  We have kept our adoption profile and home study current and have been searching for a birth mother through independent adoption.  Consequently, we have experienced a roller coaster of emotions as many well intentioned friends and family members have sought to connect us with expectant mothers, however, each time without success.

In 2015, we had a birth mother contact us.  She was due in January 2016, and wanted us to be the adoptive parents of her baby girl.  We were thrilled to be so fortunate!  We had an attorney ready, paperwork in progress, the hospital lined up, and post placement arrangements to help the birth mother.  Just one week before delivery, the sweet birth mother changed her mind and decided that she would raise her baby girl.  We were heartbroken with this devastating loss.

This year we finally made the decision and the leap of faith to adopt through Heart to Heart Adoption Agency (http://adopt.hearttoheart.com). We are looking forward to bringing another sweet child into our home to love and raise.

Through the process of joining Heart to Heart Adoption Agency, we have had the opportunity to make a book about our cute family to share with family, friends, and birthmothers to share our story. LaRecia had so much fun making it...So here it is!

Why adoption would be a miracle for us...

In March of 2005, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, which is an autoimmune disease that affects the joints in the body.  I had to begin a treatment to prevent my joints from getting twisted and disfigured.  The treatment is a mild form of chemotherapy. With the help of my medicine I am able to live a strong healthy normal life. If I were to get pregnant, the medicine would be very harmful to a developing baby.  We have chosen adoption due to my autoimmune disease. We strongly feel that adoption is Heavenly Father's special plan for us. We are excited to experience the challenges of being parents and look forward to build new relationships. This is why adoption would be a miracle for us.

What I love about Gary!

Gary is very energetic and makes every situation fun and exciting.  He loves everything about the outdoors.  He enjoys mountain biking, swimming, cliff jumping, fishing, hiking, and much much more.  If it sounds fun, he definitely is on board to try it!  Throughout Gary's life, he has been involved in many sports.  He is definitely all BOY! He is good at softball, baseball, football, and basketball.
Gary has been blessed with so many talents.  He has a beautiful voice and he enjoys playing the guitar.  Another talent he has is photography.  He enjoys doing weddings, nature photos, and family pictures.  Gary is the type of guy that will take on challenges and learn how to do anything. If something is broken, he will fix it.
What I love the very very most about Gary is how kind and considerate he is to me, Brighton, and his family.  He will drop everything to help others. It has been so much fun see him grow as an individual through the love of teaching and being a father!  He is inspires all ages of kids to take risks and teaches them to work hard. Lastly, he's always dependable and a good example to those around him.

LaRecia through my eyes!

From the very beginning of our relationship, I knew that LaRecia was exactly what I wanted and needed in my life!  She is the person that makes me stronger and gives my life purpose.  She is a woman of extreme determination and is always able to do whatever she sets her mind to.  She has accomplished much in her life and always seems to know without a shadow of a doubt the direction she needs to go.  Seeing the bravery she demonstrates as she overcomes everyday the pains of Rheumatoid Arthritis, shows me what a special and grand soul she is!  She is always strong and is one of the hardest workers I know.  One of the greatest defining moments that always gives me the greatest admiration for her is when I have the privilege of observing her teach in her classroom as a special education teacher.  She has one of the greatest capabilities and potential as a mother as I see how she interacts with the children she teaches.  All of her children love her.  Many times she has loved and effectively taught certain children whom others have failed and given up on.  She always has a smile on her face and has an extreme positive countenance that can brighten up anyone's day!  She is patient with children and has this extraordinary understanding and love of all children she encounters that I've rarely seen in anyone else.  She was created into this world to work with children and be a mother, of that I am certain.  Just watching her go throughout her life gives me the strength to be better than I was yesterday.  I could never have asked for a better companion to go throughout life with and experience all that life has to offer.

Gary and I were so excited to finally teach Brighton how to ski. Brighton was the most amazing two year old! He was fearless and loved going down the bunny hill as fast as possible. He skied for 2 hours and still wanted more by we had to leave! Since he was so amazing for his very first time, Gary came home from Beaver Mountain and immediately ordered new skis and boots for Brighton. We have taken Brighton 2 other times this season! He gets better each time! It is so amazing to share something Gary and I love to do with Brighton!
